‘Cup of tea’ is a refreshing outdoor activity suitable for young children of all abilities. The aim of making a cup of tea is to look at producing a refreshment with fire whilst out in the woods. This allows children to better understand nature, their environment and the use of fire.

- Fire kit /water/gloves/bucket
- Kelly Kettle (if trained)
- Tea bags/water/milk/sugar

- Billy can/pot
Explanation
The challenge is all about planning ahead, a simple activity used everyday in the urban environment could be looked at as a complex activity within the woodland.
Collect resources to make your fire. If you have a billy can you may want to make a frame to hang it from, and lastly light your fire. For people who need a step by step guide to making a cup of tea see below:
- Create a fire
- Place grill on top of fire or make frame for billy can
- Fill pot/billy can with water (place on / hang over heat)
- Whilst waiting for hot water: place tea bag into mug
- Use safety gloves (gauntlets) to take water off heat
- Place spoon into mug and stir (remove tea bag)
- Pour milk into mug and stir
- Finally add sugar if your not sweet enough
This activity can be very rewarding for young or additional needs children and a basic starting block for future cooking activities.
