Hunt for Natural Colours | Outlearn Activities Guide

‘Hunt for natural colours’ is a superb outdoor activity suitable for young children of all abilities. The aim of hunt for natural colours is to use your hunting and counting skills. This allows children to better understand where to try and find items and gives them the opportunity to count for a purpose.

Resources

  • Paint (different colours)
  • Paint Brushes
  • Paper
  • Pencils

Explanation

Get natural objects (sticks, leaves, stones etc.) and paint them. Go to a natural area or even indoors and hide them. Split the group into small teams and provide them with a list, preferably the lists are different to other teams, so they aren’t all looking for the same number of items.

Harder version is to make a list 1-10 different natural objects and then give them a realistic colour. E.g. two green (mossy) sticks or cream sticks (peal off bark), four brown stones (stones have all sorts of colours).

Safety Tips

Wash your hands after the activity.
