Bunce's Special Doughnuts | Outlearn Activities Guide

This activity is creative, messy and very fun, with a hint of scavenging of supplies. The aim of Bunce’s special doughnuts is to use the natural materials to create a unique doughnut. This allows children to better understand nature, their environment and to embrace the story.

Explanation

Bunce, the duck and goose farmer, loves doughnuts and goose livers. Get the group to go on a scavenger hunt for the supplies to make doughnut filled goose liver.

List for a scavenger hut (materials to make one special doughnut);

  • 3 Handfuls of dirt/mud (use water when making from crumbling dry soil)
  • 16 Seeds (can look like seeds)
  • 4 Leaves
  • 1 Stick

Get the mud and mould it into a doughnut shape, then push all the seeds into the doughnut to represent the sugar. Finally use a stick to open up the doughnut and then get the leaves (goose liver) and squeeze them inside the doughnut (you might find rolling the leaves up first is easier).

After filling it, you could make it into the ringed version by flattening it and then using a stick to make a hole in it.

Safety Tips

Make sure you check the soil before scooping it up.
