Are we nearly there yet? | Outlearn Activities Guide

‘Are we nearly there yet?’ looks at trust and the ability to estimate. The aim of this activity is to trust your partner and guess how long it will take to complete the course. This allows children to better understand how to predict a journey.

Resources

  • Stopwatch
  • Ropes
  • Blind Folds

Explanation

Plan a route within the woodland that goes under, over and even around objects. Get the group to guess how long it will take to complete the course.

Once they have completed the course, how close were they to their estimated time? To increase the difficultly either create a harder course or repeat the original course. The group would have to take an object round the course and all members of the group would have to hold on to it. Predict how long it will take this time?

To challenge them even more add a sensory element to it, all group members apart from one are blindfolded. Use your judgement, have half the group blindfolded, one member as the communicator and the rest are guides/spotters.

Safety Tips

The guide/spotters will ensure the blindfolded pupils safety by walking slowly with them and steering them away from obvious hazards (e.g. low hanging branches).
